The Establishment of the University

Al-Nahrain University was founded in 1987 and consists of two main campuses. The first is located in Al-Jadriya and includes the colleges of Engineering, Science, Political Science, Information Technology Engineering, Business Economics, and Biotechnology. This campus also hosts several specialized research centers, including the Biotechnology Research Center, the Nuclear Forensic Acid Training Center, the Renewable Energy Nanoparticles Center, and the Computer Center.

The second campus, located in Al-Kadhimiyah, includes the Colleges of Medicine, Law, and Pharmacy, as well as the Higher Institute for Infertility Diagnosis and Assisted Reproductive Technologies. The university aims to set a new standard in higher education by producing highly qualified academic professionals capable of keeping pace with scientific advancements and global technologies. Its goal is to build a foundation of knowledge distinguished by creativity and innovation, and to cultivate elite graduates and postgraduates who contribute to the scientific and cultural advancement of Iraq. Al-Nahrain University is a member of both the Association of Arab Universities and the Federation of International Universities. Its academic degrees are recognized by UNESCO.

Each year, the university continues to make qualitative progress in modernizing its facilities and developing scientific expertise, enabling it to keep pace with global advancements in science and technology. Inspired by a deep sense of national identity and pride in Iraq’s civilization, the university was named “Al-Nahrain” (The Two Rivers), reflecting its connection to the historic and cultural legacy of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. Al-Nahrain University: Between Reality and the Future. Al-Nahrain University is committed to developing a generation of scientific professionals equipped with creativity, quality, and the ability to meet international standards. The university keeps pace with scientific and technological progress through advanced research, academic theses, and by fostering cultural and scientific collaboration with leading global universities and research institutions. This includes developing modern study methods, facilitating the exchange of professors and postgraduate students, conducting joint research projects, and organizing international conferences. As part of its five-year development plan, the university is working to complete its infrastructure to better support its academic and scientific mission. This includes preparing architectural and engineering plans for future expansion, such as new administrative buildings, service facilities, lecture halls, central laboratories, green spaces, and recreational areas for students and staff.
